“The Royal Hospital at Haslar; a pair of aquatints” - J. Wells (1799)
These works are a pair of aquatints by J. Wells depicting the Royal Military Hospital Haslar. Both had experienced mechanical damage in the form of losses, creases and tears to all their edges as well as extensive damage through biological infestation and water ingress which had resulted in foxing and tide lines.
The key aims of this treatment were to restore the aesthetic integrity by reducing the acidic discoloration and foxing whilst restoring the mechanical integrity of the sheet as a whole.
