“Jaunbauz or Afghan Cavalry” - J. Rattray (1848)
As with other works at the Afghan National Gallery, this one had been deliberately torn and pieces had subsequently been lost. the work also appears to be highly acidic.
The key aims of this treatment was to reduce the acidity and discoloration within the support, to restore the structural integrity of the work through lining and infilling of losses with an appropriate fill paper. Due to the location of the losses, through mounting, it was possible to crop out most of the damage (scroll down).
